Founded in the fall of 2019, we are an organization whose purpose is to promote the prosperity of Black students and alumni. The IISBAA cultivates relationships; and leverages the resources, talents, initiatives and social capital of alumni and friends to advise, guide, advocate for and support Black Inter-Ac and Independent School students.
The IISBAA mission
To promote the prosperity of Black students and alumni by cultivating relationships, and leveraging the resources, talents and social capital of alumni and friends.
To guide and support the Black students and alumni of Philadelphia-area independent schools.
To provide an alumni network and facilitate alumni engagement.
To encourage alumni to stay connected and serve as advocates for Black students.
Jessica Golson is a 2006 graduate of Germantown Academy. After receiving her bachelor's degree from Temple University, she went on to Duke University for graduate school. She currently works as a program manager at Comcast.
Natalie Browne Holmes
Natalie Browne Holmes is a Springside lifer who graduated in 2008. Natalie attended Boston University for her undergraduate studies, followed by New York University, where she received her Master's in Public Health.
She has been living in New York City since graduating from BU in 2012. Over the course of her career, Natalie has focused on the intersection of education and technology within the public and private sectors with a focus on communities of color.
She currently works at Google where she is the program manager for a computer science and leadership program for Black and Latinx highschool students. In 2019, she co-founded the Inter-Ac and Independent School Black Alumni Association in order to continue to create space for black communities to leverage their resources, relationships, and social capital.
Brooke Hutchins is an attorney hailing from The Baldwin School (class of 2009). After attending the Bryn Mawr Institution for twelve years, Brooke went on to Georgetown University and received a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service in 2013. Following a two-year stint in public relations, Brooke earned her Juris Doctorate from Temple University, Beasley School of Law in 2018. She subsequently served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Lori A. Dumas of the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas.
Inspired by the Inter-Ac and Independent School Black Alumni Association’s vision, to promote the success of Black students and alumni from Philadelphia-area independent schools, Brooke joined the Association in 2019. She currently resides in Baltimore City.
Kamal Marell is a Philadelphia native and currently works as program manager for the Center for Parenting, Children, and Youth Services at People’s Emergency Center -- a non profit organization focused on nurturing families, empowering youth, and driving change in West Philadelphia.
He is a 2006 graduate of William Penn Charter School, and after attended Clemson University on a track and field scholarship. At Clemson, Kamal earned a B.A. in Sociology with hopes to advocate and work with underserved families and youth. After five years of doing direct social work he chose to make a shift in his career to focus on educational equity and policy. Kamal returned to school in 2016 and received his Master’s in Urban Education from Temple University in 2018.
In 2019, Kamal joined the Inter-Ac and Independent Black Alumni Association because of its commitment to advocate for Black students and families at independent schools and to further develop a cohesive network for Black independent school alumni in the greater Philadelphia region.
Rashad Campbell is a Partner at TeamAltemus, a financial education and consulting firm that educates, empowers and equips athletes on all-levels to stay money positive.
He graduated from SCH Academy in 2008. (formerly Chestnut Hill Academy) Then attended Cornell University (Ithaca, NY) earning a B.S. in Applied Economics and Management graduating in 2012. At Cornell, Rashad was a member of the football team where he served as team captain in 2011 and was a 3x All-Ivy performer.
He currently serves on the Board of Trustees at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy and regularly mentors the youth in Philadelphia’s inner city.
He is the second youngest of 11 children and currently resides in Philadelphia, PA.
